JAZZ CHANTS BY CAROLYN GRAHAM
Jazzy greetings my bilingual teachers!!!
Today we have done with Raquel a beautiful theme: Jazz Chants
Is it possible to teach any subject through music?? The answer is...YES
I've been doing this with my students that I teach in the evenings. I will show you an example:
Did you enjoy it? The topic was about Mother's Day and the students had to create their own lyrics. I gave them some adjectives to start with, later they started to write the song down. Finally, we recorded it on the laptop.
We did a similar job today:
First, we watched a video about the author, were Carolyn Graham was explaining the steps of how to create rhythms with Jazz Chants...
Step 1
Jazz Chants use natural rhythms
Step 2
4 bits
Step 3
It is an innovative way to teach English
Step 4
It must be real language, useful language
Step 5
Vocabulary chant: We can choose any topic (10 words)
Step 6
We have to separate words by syllables:
CRA-ZY
AMA-ZING
DAY
After watching the video we listened to some Raquel's rhythm examples:
PRACTISE JAZZ CHANTS

I had created a Jazz chant with my students before I knew that it was a Jazz Chant. Here you have an example:
